Life Consists of “Ten-Minute” Segments: Make it Happen
Perhaps you have long dreamed of finally learning to play your favorite musical instrument, or you really want to master a foreign language, which would significantly expand your potential job market or simply create new opportunities to make interesting acquaintances beyond the country’s borders. Or maybe you have been postponing something entirely different, something personal that only you know about, for some vaguely defined “better times” in the future? Meanwhile, those “better times” seem never to arrive (and probably never will), while responsibilities seem to increase, and the feeling of shrinking free time becomes increasingly overwhelming. As a result, your frustration continues to grow. What to do?
A few years ago, while browsing Amazon’s bookstore for interesting Kindle reads (they have everything there…!), I came across an excellent book that seems to contain the answer to this question.
The book in question is Make it Happen in Ten Minutes a Day: The Simple, Lifesaving Method for Getting Things Done by Lorne Holden.
The key lies in “ten-minute” segments. Each of us, without exception, has wasted plenty of them, whether standing in lines, waiting in various waiting rooms or at bus stops. Ten minutes seems like nothing, but let’s calculate for a moment. Ten minutes a day gives 70 minutes a week, 280 minutes a month, and over a year, that amounts to 60 hours! What if we dedicated this time to doing something that would forever change our lives for the better?
Carving out valuable time for self-development is priceless. But the benefits of “ten-minute” segments don’t end there. The process requires a bit of planning. At the very beginning, you need to know exactly what you want. It seems obvious, but it varies because people usually know well what they don’t want, and have a huge problem clearly defining what they do want. It’s known that if you really want to be in, say, Gdańsk, deciding not to go to Białystok won’t help you at all ;-). Once you know exactly what you want, you’ve essentially won, because now you start figuring out how to achieve it. You begin breaking down difficult tasks into smaller sub-tasks and immediately start tackling them step by step. It doesn’t matter how modest the first step is. It still gives you a huge boost because now you are in control, not some so-called “fate” or other coincidence.
To your amazement, your effectiveness in all areas of life will significantly increase. There is one more, perhaps the most important benefit. Everyone who has managed to achieve something in life that initially seemed impossible or even terrifying, like running a marathon distance or swimming 15 kilometers, will know what I’m writing about. When you start seeing the results of “ten-minute” segments in your life, you will inevitably gain a sense of control over it, which in turn will cause your self-esteem to soar.
You will simply feel proud of yourself. This state is priceless because isn’t it for moments like these that we want to live?
However, there must be fun in the whole endeavor, so I will repeat after the author: Make it easy, take it easy, keep it easy.
I sincerely recommend this valuable read and wish you success!
